THS Principal’s Newsletter

January 3, 2010

Dear Parent,

Happy New Year! I hope all is well. It is hard to believe that the fall semester is already over, but we are ready for a great spring semester. We have had a good, but extremely busy first semester while maintaining a sharp focus on academics.

Important upcoming events will be featured on the website at www.timpsonisd.com on the high school web page. Information, such as tutorial times, club meetings, and scholarship availability and deadlines, is made available to students daily through morning announcements and are posted on the high school bulletin board.

This semester, we are proud to announce the launch of the Timpson High School Go Center, which will focus on college awareness and preparation, and we will also be preparing for the upcoming State Assessments. The skills covered this semester will be important to each student’s future, so please encourage your child to be at school every day and to do his or her best. As always if you have questions, please call your child’s teacher and set up a conference or speak to them on the phone. We are happy to see you so come by and visit with us.

Thank you,
Mr. Lindgren

After being postponed due to poor weather conditions, both the High School and Junior High District meet took place this past Thursday at Lon Morris College in Jacksonville.

The Bears posted a third-place finish with a team score of 59 points, 15 behind the 44 points put up by the District Champion LaPoynor. The Bears placed 3rd overall as a team and will advance to the Regional Championship meet.

Senior Cameron Courtney led the varsity team with a 2nd place finish in a time of 18:23. Senior Armando Sanchez was the second Timpson finisher. He finished 7th in a time of 19:11. Junior Gustava Carapia completed the 5K course in a time of 21:19 finishing 19th overall.

Rounding out the team scores for the bears were first time runners junior Rody Paige and senior Randy Gay. Rody finished 20th with a time of 21:32 and Randy finished 22nd in a time of 21:36. Also running for the first time this year were sophomores Thomas Leon and Troy Gay. Thomas (24:07) and Troy (24:11) rounded out the Timpson competitors, finishing 34th and 36th, respectively.

On the Junior High side, it was a close team battle beginning of the race to the finish. In the end, the Junior High Bears became the 2009 District Champions by scoring a team score of 48 and beating out Cushing by two points (50). The performances of the day went to Colton McSwain and to Terrance and Tevin Brown as they finished in the top 10. Colton finished second overall with a time of 9:24. Tevin crossed the finish line just seconds behind Colton to finish 3rd overall. Not to be outdone by his brother, Terrance fought of other runners throughout the entire race for a 7th place finish. But this championship wouldn’t have been accomplished without the help of Chase Lee and James Marshall. It was Chase’s first time to run in a cross county meet, and he did not disappoint. Chase finished in 17th place overall. Needing our 5th runner to beat Cushing’s 5th runner, James did just that, finishing 19th overall to seal the victory for the bears. Great Job Timpson Bears!!!

Next for the Bears is the high school UIL Region III Championship hosted by Humble ISD. The race will take place at Lone Star College North Harris campus. The 1A high school girls will race at 1:20 pm follow by the 1A boys at 1:40 pm.
